Time Is Illmatic | Official Trailer


Twenty years after the release of Nas’s groundbreaking debut album Illmatic, the documentary feature Time is Illmatic takes viewers on an all-access journey into the heart of his creative process at the time of the recording. Returning to his childhood home in Queensbridge, Nas shares stories of his upbringing, his influences from the music of his jazz musician father Olu Dara to the burgeoning hip-hop scene in New York City and the obstacles he faced before his major label signing at age 20.

Nas – Represent | Music Video


Twenty years after its release, Nas’ Illmatic classic “Represent” gets an official video. The Queens veteran and Mass Appeal held a contest inviting fans to create the visuals. The winner, Brian Katz, was chosen to direct alongside Mass Appeal’s own Jason Goldwatch.

Nas at Coachella


Nas took the stage at Coachella last night and it was quite a performance. After performing Illmatic in its entirety he was joined on-stage by Jay-Z who performed “Dead Presidents” and “Where I’m From”, and Diddy, who joined Nas in a performance of “Hate Me Now”. Watch the full set after the JUMP

Tribeca Film Festival film Time Is Illmatic — chronicling the making of hip-hop artist Nas‘ 1994 debut album — will be the inaugural recipient of the Candescent Award, part of a new grant program designed to support the making of documentary films.

Nas & Q-Tip – One Love (Live on the Tonight Show)


With help from The Roots, Nas stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to continue promotion for his upcoming 20th anniversary edition of the critically-acclaimed Illmatic debut. Nasir wasn’t the only to touch the stage, as his fellow Queens cohort Q-Tip. The two would give a rare late night and TV performance of their 1994-single “One Love.” Check below to watch the live performance and look out for Illmatic XX in stores and iTunes next Tuesday.

The Life and Career of… Nas


Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, better known simply as Nas, is an American rapper, songwriter and actor. He is the son of jazz musician Olu Dara. Since 1994, Nas has released eight consecutive platinum and multi-platinum albums and sold over 25 million records worldwide. Aside from rapping and acting, Nas is an entrepreneur through his own record label, retail sneaker store, and magazine publishing. He currently serves as Mass Appeal Magazine’s associate publisher as well as an owner of a Fila sneaker store.
