Anderson Silva on Monday responded unlike ever before to rival middleweight Chael Sonnen, when he promised to “break his face and break every one of his teeth” in their upcoming rematch at UFC 148 on July 7. Take the JUMP for the transcript of the Media Call earlier today.
Gareth Davies (Daily Telegraph) for Chael: You’ve given us some great interviews over the years, but when do you turn off the character and get serious about this fight?
Chael: I don’t do characters, so I’m not sure what that was about, but I’ve been serious about combat since the age of 3.
Davies: You don’t like this guy very much; you think he’s a phony.
Davies (for Dana White): Mayweather, Pacquiao, and Anderson Silva are the best P4P combat stars in the world. Are you upset that he won’t be a star on Mayweather’s level because he doesn’t put himself out there the same way.
Dana: This is the biggest event of the summer, and Anderson is a very big star. He’s probably the best MMA fighter ever, and this guy is a huge superstar in his home country. People want to see him fight all over the world. Boxing PPV numbers aren’t the same, and I have to disagree with you; I think he’s a big star.
Davies: I’m not disputing he’s a big star, but do you wish that he would do more interviews in English, be more of a crossover star. I feel like he could be a global star.
Dana: I don’t disagree with you. Does he have to work hard to speak English? People are showing up to hear this guy give speeches. He’s an artist in the cage. You show up to watch this guy fight. He could be a deaf f’in mute; it wouldn’t matter.
Davies (for Anderson): Some of the things Chael has said are supposed to be ironic, but did he step over the line when he spoke about your wife?
Anderson: First of all, Chael is a criminal; he’s been convicted of crimes, and he doesn’t deserve to be in the Octagon. And when the time comes, I’m going to break his face, and break every one of the teeth in his mouth.
