Update on the Apple Campus in Cupertino

Following recent news of a ballooning budget thanks to the late Steve Jobs‘ “sky-high requirements for fit and finish,” the city of Cupertino has released updated plans for the much talked-about Apple campus of the future. Designed by architectural firm Foster + Partners, the 176-acre campus will aim to consolidate Apple’s smattering of aging corporate facilities in favor of a 2.8 million square-foot circular structure – which eschews Apple’s classic white detailing in favor of an all-black design. The central four-story structure is designed to hold roughly 12,000 of the campus’ 14,200 employees and will offer state-of-the-art meeting and office spaces alongside 60,000 square-feet of dining space and a lush outdoor terrace. Surrounded by over 100 acres of OLIN-designed greenery – reminiscent of the Northern California landscape – the main facility will be accompanied by a 100,000 square-foot fitness center, a 1,000 seat auditorium, and a parking garage capable of accommodating 10,980 automobiles. Finally, 700,000 square-feet of rooftop solar panels will look to offset energy use for a net-zero result. Apple’s futuristic campus is set to be complete in 2016.

In fact, sometimes I wish I could climb into a time machine and go back to shake some sense into that thirty-year-old me. If I could, here’s the advice I would give him:
