What’s Beef? Fashion House Alexander McQueen vs The Hells Angels

Just eight days after filing a lawsuit over Alexander Mcqueen‘s designs featuring the biker club’s trademarked name and “death head” skull logo, the Hells Angels have settled with the fashion house as well as retailers Saks Fifth Avenue and Zappos.com, and at quite a cost to the three companies. The defendants have agreed to pull all merchandise referencing the Hells Angels, including knuckle-duster rings, clutches, the “Hells Angels Jacquard Box Dress” and a pashmina from their websites and stores, according to the Hells Angels’ lawyer, Fritz Clapp. What’s more, they’ve also said that they’ll recall any of the merchandise that’s already been sold and destroy it. This will undoubtedly be a major ordeal, partially since no one knows exactly how many of these items were sold, but also because most customers won’t be too keen on packaging them back up in their Zappos boxes and returning them.

The biker group has also demanded financial damages based on the profits made from sales of the merchandise, but this is still being worked out, since the logistics of the recall have yet to be determined. In any case, there’s a lesson to be learned here: Some things, like toughness, are even harder to come by than a $1,565 minidress, ladies! Explained Clapp, “They consider it quite exclusive … They consider themselves members, not someone who bought a $495 ring.”
