B.C. Man Set on Fire in Alcohol-Fuelled Fight

A North Vancouver man is in serious condition after being lit on fire during an alcohol-fuelled brawl Saturday.

Mounties arrived in the 700-block of Old Lillooet Road around 4 p.m. and found a 56-year-old man had been set ablaze by a 34-year old man after the two had been drinking booze all day.

Cpl. Richard De Jong said they were fighting when the younger man threw camp fuel on the victim and then set him on fire.

The man suffered severe burns to more than 50 per cent of his body and was taken to the burn unit of Lions Gate Hospital. The man has been placed in a drug-induced coma.

The 34-year-old North Vancouver resident has been charged with attempted murder and remains in police custody.
Police said the two men knew each other.
