Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Perform “Same Love” Live on Ellen

Tuesday, October 30th, 2012

It has been a big year for Washington-based rap duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Between their debut full-length album “The Heist” hitting the top of the charts on iTunes, and coming in at number two on the Billboard rankings, they have enjoyed a plethora of attention and brought in new fans from all over.

Perhaps the most promising event to take place as they enjoy their newfound fame was their recent appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show on October 30, however.

Before Macklemore and Ryan Lewis took the stage to perform the song “Same Love,” which openly supports same sex marriage, Ellen said no other artist in hip hop history has ever taken a stand defending marriage equality the way they have.

When Ellen saw their video, she immediately wanted to share it with her viewers. The talk show host called the pair her “new heroes” for their efforts in backing equal rights for all in America.

The song “Same Love” put Macklemore and Ryan Lewis on the map recently, prior to their album dropping, and hit 10 million views on YouTube.

Following the live performance on Tuesday’s show, Ellen called the song “beautiful “ and “amazing,” as the crowd roared with applause.
