Jeremy Renner may be the new face of the Bourne movie franchise. But the trace of Jason Bourne, played by Matt Damon in the first three films, is all over the extended trailer for “The Bourne Legacy” released today.
Like Bourne, CIA agent Aaron Cross (Renner) entered into a special training project that goes awry. He is described as “Treadstone, without the inconsistency.” The higher-ups seeking to “burn the program to the ground” face another fearless rebel in Cross.
The film, due out Aug. 3, also stars Edward Norton as the chief baddie, as well as Rachel Weisz, Scott Glenn and Stacy Keach. Returning players include Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Albert Finney, but apparently not Damon himself — though his character is name-dropped repeatedly in this two-minute span alone.
In the trailer, see Renner leap into an almost conveniently narrow alleyway and throw a guy through glass.
